Rain sticks make a beautiful gentle rain like sound as hundreds of small objects cascade past projections on the hollow inside of bamboo. They are made in Phillipines and decorated with patterns burned into the bamboo, multi-colouted painted dots and woven rattan decoration at each end. Rain sticks are played by gently turning the stick so that the shells fall to the bottom of the stick. When the sound finishes the stick can be turned the other way up to play is again. The longer the rain stick the longer the sound lasts.
